The Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete
It is very often that visitors of a place wish to come into contact with the local artwork created by domestic artists and even purchase a work of art which they will place in a prominent position within their home, whether this may be in Greece or abroad.
The new Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete is located in the heart of the old town of Rethymno and it is one of a kind on the entire island. Housed within an old Venetian building which accounted as one of the first industrial spaces in Crete -as a soap factory of the early 20th century-, it nowadays constitutes an admirable, contemporary art space of 1.000 sq. meters.
The Museum hosts a permanent collection of 500 works of art by various contemporary Greek artists, covering the Greek cultural era from the 1950s to today. The locals take special pride in the Museum of Contemporary Art and applaud the efforts made for the running of several educational workshops to which more than 8.000 youngsters and adults have already participated. November 1 - April 30 / daily 09:00-14:00 & Wednesdays & Fridays additionally between 19:00 and 21:00. Mondays closed / Weekends 10:00-15:00. Entrance fee: 3 €, students 1.5 €. Free entrance for everyone on Thursdays.
