ELOUNDA

The history of Elounda village is not only rich but exciting too

Elounda. A small and infamous fishing village in Crete in the mid 20th century which turned into a world famous seaside resort at the beginning of the 21st century. The history of Elounda village is not only rich but exciting too. It is located in the county of Lassithi, at 10 Km from Aghios Nikolaos. Up until the 1950, it was simply a small fishing village with a rather bad reputation due to the leper institution that was operating at the islet of Spinalogga until 1957 opposite Elounda. Everything changed in 1969, when the construction of the first large hotel complex took place in Elounda bay. Ever since, slowly but continuously, the area begun to connote to luxury resorts which in the meantime multiplied in number.

Nowadays, numerous 5 star hotels operate in Elounda village, offering unique facilities, as well as top quality services.

A VIP and high-end clientele destination, Elounda is now worldwide famous but, of course, this did not happen over night. Beautifully positioned on the bay, the area has a plethora of magical landscapes to share with the visitor and constitutes a destination with an exemplary tourist development offering multiple accommodation choices of very high standards.
