ROJYOH -The beat on the road!!!!

Badminton Theater welcomes the Yamato drummers, one of the most significant taiko musicians from Japan. Yamato counts 20 years from its establishment and it is celebrating through the musical spectacle «Rojyoh: The beat on road» which, in essence, constitutes an anthology of their best acts up to now in their long lasting course.

«Taiko» in Japanese, stands for the word “drum” and the ancient Japanese art of percussion instruments. The Yamato drummers are considered to be the most important continuators of this great tradition. Nonetheless, the spectacle «Rojyoh: The beat on road» is more than a simple taiko musical show. It is a multicoloured musical and optical performance of explosive energy, bodily power, absolute synchronization, dance and - above all - percussion playing.

The group uses dozens of traditional Japanese drums on stage, ranging from the small ones which are named “uchiwa-daiko” and are held with one hand, to the huge “odaiko” that is made of a tree trunk aged of at least 400 years and a diameter just over one meter! The sound of taiko is accompanied by other traditional Japanese instruments, like the shinobue and the shamise. A true kaleidoscope that will most definitely uplift you with its powerful dynamism. The Times of London, wrote: “The power of the Yamato, lifts the spectators from their seats who are laughing, cheering, applauding and participating throughout the show”.

The philosophy of the “Rojyoh: The beat on road” is the beat of the drum just like the beating of the heart. A plethoric accompaniment of sounds and movement and a celebration of percussion deriving from the depths of the Japanese tradition!
