The Acropolis Museum celebrates its fourth birthday today!

The “best museum of the world” as The Sunday Times have written, celebrates four years today since it first opened its doors to the public and invites us all for an acquaintance with the Ancient Greek civilisation.

Just for today, the exhibition spaces and the restaurant of the Acropolis Museum will be open to the public from 8 o’ clock in the morning until midnight and the entrance fee will be offered at the reduced rate of 3 euro for all visitors.

In more detail, visitors of the museum today will be guided by the Archaeologists - Conservators through the history of the surviving blocks of the frieze of the past 300 years, while four special screens will be placed within the Parthenon Foyer -on the 3rd floor- at every corner of the space, showing a 3D representation of the blocks. Our journey back in time will be accompanied by the music of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, which will begin to present us with their pleasurable melodies at 9 pm covering a known and much loved international repertoire. As a special souvenir of the day, one will be able to buy from the Museum Shop the two sculpts (copies), especially created for the museum’s fourth anniversary. The separate head exhibits of Poseidon and Artemis which constitute specimens of the eastern frieze of the Parthenon.

Let’s all take this opportunity and visit the cradle of Greek history today. Let’s discover the origins of Greek civilization with a view to the Acropolis of Athens.
