Extra virgin olive oil from the area of Mani in the Peloponese: Among the best worldwide.

The months of October and November are the two months during which the people of Mani produce the best varieties of extra virgin olive oil on a world scale. A process that has been taking place for hundreds of years...

People from the area of Mani show a true sentiment of love and respect to olive trees, since it is the source of their most well known local product, especially in the autumn season where they begin the whole process with a large dosage of traditionalism.

Olives are hand picked through the -as much as a sacred- procedure, because the trees are small and delicate. Any other means of collecting the olives would prove to be wrong, so hand picking yields to the precious produce of the world wide recognized extra virgin olive oil of Mani, classified among other areas such as the French Province and the South of Spain.

Another equally significant factor is the dynamics of biological cultivation in the area, which gained grounds during the 80s when the demand of pure nutritional products became more apparent, hence making a start point to the production of biological olive oil.

The programme of biological cultivation in the area of Mani constitutes one of the best organized within Europe and it brings together the efforts of at least 200 different producers from the regions of Messini and Laconia in the South of Greece.

Cultivation processes are carried out in the most traditional way, where the use of artificial fertilizers and chemical pesticides is absolutely prohibited. The above, in combination with the ever growing knowledge of the farmers about ecology and the evolution of the olive tree, lead to the guarantee of Holistic Quality of the produced olive oil.
