Voidomatis river: A walk along its crystal clear waters in the region of Epirus

Voidomatis river gets its name from the combination of two words of Slavic origin. The word ‘Voda’ which means water and the word ‘Mata’ which means mother.

This amazing river has crystal clear waters at a stable temperature of 4 ° C all year round. Its freezing state will not stop you from wanting to experience a swim in its beautiful blue-green waters though.

It is considered to be one of the cleanest rivers in Europe and of course its water is potable, something easily confirmed if we take into account the river’s numerous main sources located in Vikos village near the city of Ioannina.

For the fans of extreme sports, such as kayaking and rafting but also for all those who wish to take an adventurous break within the richness of nature, river Voidomatis constitutes one of the best options in Greece due to its endless length, which, together with its affluent river Aoos it reaches15 Kilometers!.

How could we not mention a few things about the whole area around the banks of the river? Thousands of acres of Greek mountains, valleys and pasture land, hundreds of massive trees by its banks for centuries and all those picturesque stone-built bridges that you want to go across...This uniquely interesting part of the region of Epirus is worthy of your visit.

Get ready to seize the benefits of authentic nature.
