Road trip in Mani: the definition of authentic images of Greek natural beauty
One of the most beautiful road trips in Greece is - without doubt - the one we can take in the Peloponnesian peninsula. Now is the best time as ever to discover it!
The road that unites the town of Areopolis and the settlement of Gerolimenas is a magnificent specimen of the grandeur of Greek nature.
We are referring to the “backbone” of the region of Mani due to the fact that the particular road meanders and twists below the imposing slopes of Mount Saggias, while the smaller roads which stream from it will lead us to the beautiful villages of Mani through vast expanses of olive groves and numerous prickly pear trees.
Heading southwards from the town of Areopolis and remaining on the main road, we will arrive at the Tower of Diros and the famous Diros Caves, while at very close proximity we can also visit the village of Haria.
For the duration of our road trip, we will feast our eyes to the massive plains of olive groves, the numerous prickly pear trees and the bare, rocky slopes all of which are accompanied by the magnificent background of the deep blue of the Messinian gulf.
As far as the village of Gerolimenas is concerned, we are already aware that we are going to be faced with one of the most beautiful and picturesque small ports in Greece. A bit further down the way, we will also come across the village Alika and that of Kiparisso and - of course - the village of Vathia which we will capture with numerous clicks in our camera.
Our road trip will end when we finally approach the bay of Porto Sternes just a few kilometers from Cape Tenaro, where according to mythology the gates of the Underworld were located. This is where we will come to see how it feels to be at the southern tip of Europe.
Our road trip along the authentic beauties of the Greek nature has reached to an end. Thankfully, Kyrimai Hotel is only a few kilometers back. We will gladly return to the port of Gerolimenas in Mani where we will allow ourselves to relax for a weekend at least and 'plunge' into the unforgettable aquatic paradise of the the deep blue sea that engulfs it.
