Pleasant stroll at the Upper quarter of Trikala town

Pleasant stroll at the Upper quarter of Trikala town

The Upper Quarter of Trikala used to be the wealthier area of the town and where the rich families mostly settled.

This is where we can still find a few specimens of the wealth that used to characterize this area of the town of Trikala, such as: high tower houses with massive iron gates and, in general, very nice buildings.

(The Notaras family Tower)

The Notaras family was one of the wealthiest of all and in our stroll within the quarter we can find and admire the very old Notaras Tower that used to belong to the family. Another interesting building is that of the Dasseos family which still bears a sign on the large front door showing the age of the building which was constructed on the 1st of May 1806.

The Old Quarter’s protector is Aghios Nikolaos but unfortunately it is unknown when exactly the church under his name was actually built. The grave of the head of the Notaras family - Andrea - is located right outside this church, thus showing the family’s power and importance for the area at large.

Do not omit to make a further stop at the church of Aghios Gerasimos which was built in 1968, but also that of Aghios Georgios whose bell tower is said to date back to 1834. Both worthy of your visit and admiration.

At approximately 2 Km from the village / quarter, up on the slopes of beautiful Mount Ziria, you will discover the Monastery of Aghios Vlassios. .

The Upper Quarter of Trikala town is located at an altitude of 1.100 m. and it has a very agreeable climate attracting visitors all year round. Most certainly we must mention that the views offered by this place here are absolutely amazing.

All-in-all, this is an excursion that will invigorate your senses, since you will be amidst the rich nature that especially during Spring is blossoming. An excursion that you can compliment by staying at the luxury Pliadon Gi Mountain Resort & Spa.
