Museums are celebrating across the country! Save the date for a cultural panorama
Free entrance to Museums across Greece on the 18th of May.
The International Committee of Museums (ICOM), in an attempt to fortify the role of Museums within contemporary society, defined the 18th of May as the International Museum Day. This took place in the year 1977 and applies annually ever since
The main message conveyed by this anniversary, is to “turn Museums into fora of cultural exchange in order to enforce the mutual understanding, the cooperation and the peace between different peoples and civilizations”.
On the 18th of May and on the same day every year, entrance is free of charge in every Museum across Greece.
Exhibitions, educational programs for pupils of elementary and secondary education, day events, conferences, speeches, organized tours, musical and other kind of events are going to be held in Museums all over Greece, beginning as of the 18th of May and up to the end of the month.
This year’s celebrations are themed “Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change” and the Museum centrally honoured is the Archaeological Museum of Delphi.
