In Andros island there is a beach with a peculiar name…

Why is this beach so significant and where does its peculiar name derive from?

When the island was under Turkish occupation, the history records some kind of treason from an old lady and her daughter, who became the reason for the Turks to enter the castle of Ellines. The old lady felt bad -in retrospect- about her action and as a result she jumped off the hill and her figure took the shape and matter of stone.

This is how the legend justifies the shape of the peculiar rock situated at the beach, which, as the locals say, it has the exact shape of an old lady wearing her characteristic scarf on her head. This is the most popular story about how the beach acquired its peculiar name, but there are a few others too.

The beach “tis grias to pidima” – the old lady’s jump, is located at 2 Km northwest of Korthios bay. It is a rather small beach but one of the most well known of the island due to the superb scenery it offers to its visitors but also due to its peculiar name.

The way to access it is by small boat from Korthios bay or by driving there, where at some point you will have to park your car and continue on foot for about 5 minutes.

The beauty of the landscape spreading in front of your eyes, will most certainly reward you.

As far as your accommodation on the island of Andros is concerned, Tresor hotels & Resorts has two distinct and special options at your disposal:
