Discovering the cherished “island” in southern Rhodes

Heading towards the southern tip of the island of Rhodes we come across a spectacular landscape. Nature has once again worked wonders here, creating an exotic paradise. “Nisi” in Greek stands for island, but Prassonisi is not in fact an island. It is a piece of land joined to the island of Rhodes with a thin strip of sand. This thin strip of sandy land cherishes exotic beaches and depending on the season and weather, they become narrower or wider and separate the Karpathian Sea in two. The old Town of Rhodes may be far from this paradise but the effort to get there will surely reward you. The beaches of Prassonisi are well organised due to the fact that they have become a top destination for windserfers worshiping the strong winds of the area.

Windsurfers have actually named both sides of the strip and the one is called "Wave", the other "Flat". The «Wave» side is perfect for the experienced surfers and usually offers waves of 1-2 meters, although for surfers a “good day” involves waves of 2-3 meters or even 4 meters in the winter, which basically constitutes a ''very good day" for surfers. The other side named ''Flat'' is ideal for 'slalom' and 'freestyle' but also for windsurfers still learning or of intermediate level.

Prassonisi is a privileged location regarding winds. When there are no winds at the rest of the islands of the Aegean, in Prasonissi the winds blow at 4-5 Beaufort, while in contrast when the winds are strong all over the Aegean Sea, Prasonissi is relatively calm on the ''Flat'' side.

You can approach the "island" both on foot or...swimming. Drive to the near end of the sandy strip from Kattavia where you will park in a huge natural parking lot and simply forget the car and civilization!

Regarding your stay in Rhodes island, select the superb settlement of Lindos also in the southern side of the island. At Melenos Lindos luxury suites, let the notorious views of the Aegean Sea accompany your holiday within the hotel’s beautifully decorated surroundings and its relaxed atmoshere.
