The traditional angle of the cosmopolitan island of Santorini
The rich in images and traditions island of Santorini, welcomes us wholeheartedly this summer for yet another unique festivity at the village of Pyrgos. The medieval settlement constitutes a true gem for the island as it spreads on the imposing hill and graciously overlooks the whole of Santorini from side to side, from cape Akrotiri to the romantic village of Oia at the northern tip. The village of Pyrgos is one of the best preserved settlements of the island and it actually used to be the main town, just after the total destruction of Skaros Castle and right before Fira became the capital in the 19th century.
The “Cultural Association Kallistis Thiras” invites us all to participate at the traditional festivities hosted at the village’s main square tonight, Monday, the 5th of August. Join the locals at around 21:00 and let them initiate you to the traditions of the island. The event's musical section is going to be covered by Greek folk singer Spiros Vassalos, the group Aidonakia and singer Maria Verikokou, while the members of the cultural association will present visitors and tourists with a full set of traditional folklore dances. This year’s festivities in Pyrgos are part of the wider programme with which the island has been presenting its guests, as part of the “Year of Gastronomy 2013”.
The “alternative” Santorini will certainly bewilder you.
After an evening of an extra-large dose of tradition and local culture, relax and unwind in the company of the panoramic views offered by Voreina Gallery Suites, as you swim in your private swimming pool.
