A visit at the ''P. Vrellis'' Museum of Wax Figures in the city of Ioannina

At just 12 km off the city of Ioannina in Epirus and on the National Route towards Athens, we come across Bizani village where the Museum of Greek History mainly hosts exhibits of the country’s contemporary history within an exemplary 18th century building of regional  architecture.

Artist Pavlos Vrellis completed his studies in Sculpture at the School of Fine Arts in 1954 and participated in many exhibitions as a sculptor until 1983 and before actually having the inspirational idea of creating the museum. This is when he decided to buy an area of 17 acres in Bizani village of Ioannina and build his museum.

The museum opened its doors to the public on July 31st 1995 exhibiting admirable real-size wax figures, thus, justifying the artist’s efforts over the previous years. The wax figures depict important personas and circumstances of the Greek History.

We thank photoioannina.blogspot.gr for the wonderful photos.
