Leonardo Da Vinci: Exhibition in Athens illustrating his life and work

Leonardo Da Vinci (1452 - 1519) was undoubtedly one of the greatest personalities in the history of mankind. An architect, a painter, a sculptor, a musician, an inventor, an engineer, an anatomist, a geometer, a scientist. Among his most famous works of art is the famous Mona Lisa and the Last Supper.

The exhibition ''Leonardo Da Vinci: The Man, The Inventor, The Genius''  has been hosted in more than 20 cities in the world over the past few years and we now welcome it in Athens until the 16th of February 2014 where we will admire an illustration of various aspects of his life and his work.

The exhibition includes more than 40 interactive, three-dimensional models of inventions and machines: flying machines, models based on hydraulics and the mechanical sciences, as well as, military equipment. Those actual exhibits have been constructed by a traditional Italian company which has been creating replicas for the past two centuries, based on the techniques and materials used by Da Vinci himself. The machines which are presented, constitute the first specimens of a car, a bicycle, a helicopter and others and have been reconstructed according to the inventor’s notes written on his notebooks which he carried around with him at all times in order to record his findings. All exhibits have been constructed with absolute precision using materials of Da Vinci’s epoch, such as wood, metal, cloths and ropes.

Visitors of the exhibition will also have the opportunity to admire as many as 23 digital copies of the famous paintings of the great artist, including the "Mona Lisa", "The Last Supper" and "The Lady with an Ermine". The paintings help the visitors realize how those masterpieces are connected to the artist's love for science and nature. The works of art are presented in chronological order so that the visitor can easily comprehend the evolution of the artist’s style through the years.
