Discover Diros Caves and witness the magic of one of the most beautiful caves in the world

The locals were aware of its existence since 1900 but they could have never perceived the tremendous beauty it was cherishing within it. In 1949, the founders of the Hellenic Speleological Society began to explore it and by 1960 they had completed an exploration and mapping of around 1.600 meters, although we know today that its total length is over 15 km...

The temperature in the interior of the caves ranges from 16 to 20°C and the water temperature of the lakes does not exceed 14°C. The formulation of the caves begun hundreds of thousands of years ago while the stalactites and stalagmites which are now visible under the sea surface were actually formed when the level was much lower than it is today.

The tour of the Diros Caves takes place via small boats and the boatman also holds the role of the guide, narrating the interesting story of the caves. The tour covers a distance of 1.200 meters within a lake and a distance of 300 meters on foot. The visit’s total duration does not exceed 40-45 minutes. Next to Diros Caves you may also have the time to visit the Neolithic Museum which exhibits priceless specimens of great historical value from findings dating back to the Paleolithic Era.
