Christmas in Athens..."the city of children, enchanting fairytales and fascinating games"

Christmas in Athens...

With the central slogan “Athens celebrates Christmas and becomes the city of children, enchanting fairytales and fascinating games”, the mayor of the city of Athens, Mr. George Kaminis, presented the program of events for the festive season of Christmas and the New Year 2013/2014. This year’s program of events is different from that of previous years and devotes its attention to children and to fascinating games. Rich in imagination and covering every corner of the city, this Christmas in Athens we will experience the most enchanting fairytale!

According to the mayor, Athens is going to be celebrating Christmas this year too despite of the crisis the country is undergoing. Through many original events scheduled for the festive season, life will be brought back to the center of the city, revealing its multi-cultural character, its traditions but also its European identity. To this end, the celebrations will commence in one of the city's most degraded areas, that of Aghios Panteleimonas square in Acharnon street.

Carols, percussion instruments, modern and traditional melodies, flamenco and clarinets, swing and serenades, string quartets and popular songs performed by the City of Athens Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras and the City of Athens Choir together with more than 150 artists will “take over” the street and neighborhoods of Athens with their excellent music. Art exhibitions, old collectible toys, theatrical performances, interactive puppet theater, rare collection exhibits, video and shadow theater, electronic games, narration of Christmas fairy tales and well-known story tellers. Everything will lead to the great appointment on the New Year’s Eve at Thisseion in order to welcome the New Year!

The festive events of the Municipality of Athens for Christmas and the New Year 2013/2014 have already commenced and will conclude on Sunday, the 5th of January in Syntagma square.
