Greek islands among the top destinations for the Irish in 2014
The Irish hold a special place in their hearts for the Greek islands and according to the newspaper "Irish Independent" they are ranked among the most popular destinations for 2014 in a world scale. The article mentions the following among others:
"Could 2014 be the year of recovery for Greece? Whatever may happen with the country’s economy (Greece assumes the EU presidency from January onwards), tourism levels are going to increase. Within the list of “Lonely Planet” showing the top destinations worthy to visit in 2014, the Greek islands are at the top and there is also promising ground for the Peloponnese diving parks in archaeological finds. The islands themselves do not need any special introduction. Ranging from the view of the volcano in Santorini and the beaches of Mykonos and Ithaca which are packed with celebrities (last summer they were frequented by Russell Crowe and Madonna), to the island of Kefalonia known from the movie Captain Corelli's Mandolin and to the cypress green bays of Corfu, there are over 2.000 dreamy islands and islets overall. Accessing them is constantly made easier. Aer Lingus continues its direct flights from Dublin to Corfu which were launched last year, British Airways commences its direct flight connections to Mykonos and Santorini this May while the travel agency Falcon Holidays added Rhodes in its travel brochure for 2014."
The other destinations in the top 10, are:
• Brazil (due to the World Cup to be held in the summer)
• San Francisco, USA
• Glasgow, Scotland
• Newfoundland, Canada
• Northern Spain
• Peru
• Tromso, Norway
• Cape Town, South Africa
• Manchester, United Kingdom
