Treasure hunting across Athens
A rather different treasure hunt is scheduled for the 24th of February in Athens, as part of the International Tourist Guide Day.
If you would like to participate to this treasure hunt of smaller or larger treasures, all you have to do is to come down to the Athens city center where there will be related activities for all ages.
Participants are going to be meeting up at Eleftherias (Freedom) Park which is located in front of the Eleftherios Venizelos Museum. There they can enroll between 10 in the morning and noon.
After registering, participants will get their copy of the catalogue listing all of the Museums and the Monuments which are included in the day event of the treasure hunt. The catalogue will inform them of the particular object in a Museum or a distinct Monument that has to be discovered. Tourist guides will be available at the designated spots and they will be presenting the “found’ treasure to every participant arriving. Through this interesting and fun guide, the participants will be filling in a questionnaire with the wanted answers, as they go along. Do not forget to pick up your own copy of the questionnaire at the starting point of the treasure hunt!
When the whole guide has been completed and the participant has acquired all the wanted answers to the questionnaire, they can hand it in at the last participating Museum, where an appointed tourist guide will wait for them. This will be the finishing point of the treasure hunt. Mr. Varotsos - the artist who created the statue of the “Runner” among other pieces of art - will also be at the finishing point and happy to talk with participants about his work.
This is a treasure hunt that will reward the participants who will manage to reach the finishing point, by granting them with free guides by the official tourist guides of the city of Athens, to be held the following Sunday after the treasure hunt event (on the 3rd of March).
The participating Museums and Monuments, are: a) Eleftherios Venizelos Museum b) «Dromeas (Runner)», forecourt of the Athens National Gallery c) Metro station Evangelismos d) The Byzantine and Christian Museum of Athens e) The Athens Museum of Cycladic Art f) the Nikos Hadjikyriakos – Ghika Gallery (Benaki Museum).
