Discover the secrets of noble Andros and enjoy the beauty of the most green island of the Cyclades!

Andros island cherishes its own gastronomy secrets which bear culinary treasures that you ought to taste. Do not omit to try the dish of “fourtalia”, which is basically an omelette with local sausage, the “lambriatis” which is a local dish of lamb stuffed with cheese, greens, herbs and eggs and baked in a traditional oven (mainly available during Easter time but you could probably order it specifically). As far as products which are typical of Andros and you will not find them elsewhere, search for the local macaroons, the “kaltsounia” pies, the thyme honey from the area of Agios Petros and, of course, all types of spoon sweets which are fruits preserved in sweet syrup.

Agosto

Here you will have a tantalising culinary experience initiated and brought to you by the experienced chefs who thrive with their gourmet Mediterranean dishes, through an apparent emphasis on Italian tastes. Do try the beef fillets with a toping of fresh mozzarella, the potato puree, the breaded tomatoes in grated parmesan and fragrant herbs and, of course, the linguini with crab and lime. The Yacht club of Andros

It is located at the beach of Nimborio in Chora and it is listed among the best places to dine and wine, while on the island of Andros. A parade of Greek Mediterranean dishes characterises its menu, although a fairly distinguished emphasis is made on seafood. All dishes are prepared with locally sourced products and the Yacht Club also boasts a bar with creative cocktails. It is highly probable that you will return to it for its lounge music, its proximity to the beach, its quality cuisine and its atmospheric ambience. Open daily from 18.00 till late. Taverna Stamatis

A family tavern, situated in the area of Batsi which serves traditional delicacies of Greek cuisine cooked by Mrs Kallirhoe and the owner Yiannis Thomas. All the dishes listed in its menu are handmade and freshly cooked. The taverna is famous for its tantalising lobster pasta but if you are a meat eater then order the stuffed chicken, cooked the Androsway. Ta Yalia

Your ultimate choice, if you are interested in the catch of the day fish wise! It is a family taverna located at the beach of Yalia only 2 km from Chora. Apart from its exquisite fresh fish, you will also enjoy a large variety of home-cooked dishes inspired by Greek cuisine, as well as, all types of grilled meat. Prices start at €10/ person. Endohora

It is located at the central road of the capital, Chora, and has already drawn the attention of loyal repeating customers. Ο Yiannoulis

A family taverna operating since 1958 in the area of Agios Petros. Its menu lists numerous hand-made, traditional dishes cooked by Mrs. Kaliopi. You must try the rooster in tomato sauce, the traditional “fourtalia” and the stuffed eggplant which is a much sought after specialty. Open daily between 12.00 - 23.00.
