Local Products

Andros island sources a wide range of local products, with “pambiloni” sweet, making the top of the list since the citrus fruit from which it is made is only cultivated here. While visiting the island, feast in its delicious variety of rare marmalades and shop for healing herbs, that you will drink as a warming beverage during winter. The island is known for its pure thyme honey, especially from the area of Agios Petros, the fragrant vinegar and its extra virgin olive oil, the local cheese called “ladotiri” and of course the macaroons and “kaltsounia” which have a fanatic crowd!

In case you are invited to a wedding while on the island, do not hesitate to try the alcoholic drink called “soumada”. At Easter time, the traditional dish called “lambriatis” will definitely get your attention and it is worth the try. In essence, it is an interesting dish of lamb, stuffed with cheeses, greens, dill, peppermint and eggs baked in a traditional wood oven.

In the capital town, Chora, you will come across numerous shops that sell the topical products for which Andros island is famous for. At the village of Batsi you could also visit the Women's Agricultural Market and really get your hands to the island’s traditional treasures of gastronomy.
