Discovering a "new" point of historical significance in the county of Arcadia
The area of Trikorfo in the county of Arcadia is now officialy a "historical place".
It is the area up on the mountain slopes of Mount Menalo, where one can still see the traces left behind from the action of the leaders of the Greek Revolution of 1821, such as, those of Kolokotronis, Ipsilandis and many others.
The decision to officially recognize the area as of historical significance, was taken unanimously by the Central Archaelogical Committee and after the continuous pressure for years by the local community to do so.
The area of Trikorfo has left its mark in Greek history since this is the exact point where various battles were given towards the emancipation of the Greeks before, during but also after the Revolution of 1821.
The most important battles took place in March 1770, whereas from April until September 1821 the area consituted the headquarters of the protagonists of the Greek Revolution for the siege of the city of Tripolitsa. Also, on the 24th of June 1825 the Battle of Trikorfa took place between the Greeks with their leader Theodoros Kolokotronis and the Turks with their leader Ibrahim, to which the Greeks were defeated.
