Santorini island: the most popular destination in the Mediterranean basin
On hearing the word "Mediterranean"...which is the destination that first springs to your mind?
Based on the reviews by users, Trivago conducted a survey asking this precise question. Destinations located in the Mediterranean Sea were compared and the winner was none other than the Greek island of Santorini and the areas of Imerovigli and Fira in particular which occupy the top two positions in the list. Santorini seems to be the top selected destination by far and just a little further down the list we also come across the Greek island of Crete. The areas of Chania and Rethymno occupy the 4th and 5th place respectively, while the area of Agios Nikolaos in the county of Lassithi occupies the 17th position in the same list.
More specifically, Crete and Santorini are the top two islands connoting to the Mediterranean according to the list, which also includes six destinations in Italy and with Capri positioned in the third place, four destinations in Spain, two in France and Lagos in Portugal.
