The island of Astipalea has been famous for its quality, delicious honey since the Antiquity and it is a fact that during the past few years the island’s beekeeping is booming. Beekeepers, are actually feeding the bees with herbs and wildflowers and this is the reason why the locally produced honey is fragrant and very tasty.

Among other locally produced products, the island of Astipalaia is known for its top quality saffron or “zafora” as it is called by the natives. The herb resembles to an anemone, it has purple petals and red stamens and grows among stones in particular mountains of the island.
